How can I help my teen’s depression in North Carolina? Parenting difficult teens is becoming an epidemic.
Since 2020 teen depression and anxiety has doubled. Experts blame the increase in screen-time as part of the reason. Teen depression can lead to other behavioral issues.
Is your teen:
–Depressed, anxiety, stress?
-Anger, rage, explosive?
–Entitled, rude, disrespectful?
-Vaping, doing drugs, drinking?
–ADHD, ODD, RAD, Bipolar
-Addicted to their smartphone, video-gaming?
-Refusing to go to school, skipping classes?
-Smart, but failing in school? School refusal?
–Withdrawing from favorite interests?
-Defiance, disrespectful, rude?
-Stealing money from parents? Legal issues?
When will you know it’s time for a therapeutic boarding school?
1. Have you exhausted all your local resources? You have tried a local therapist — your teen has either refused to continue to attend or has stopped engaging. The school setting is not working — your teen is now either not going to classes or avoiding school all together. Outpatient treatment has failed. You may have tried a short-term hospital stay — however this was unsuccessful since it’s only short term results, if any.
2. Living with a relative. Some families have attempted to move the depressed teen to a relative — with hopes that a change of environment will prompt a change in behavior. Again, sometimes this works – and others it can be a band-aid, however it can help you make that decision that you have exhausted your local resources before you decide to choose a therapeutic boarding school.
3. Is your teen a danger to themselves or other people (you)? Has your child become violent towards you or themselves? This is when you know it’s time to start researching for places to send troubled teens or teens struggling with depression. It’s not working at home.
4. Do you feel like you are hostage in your home by their behavior? Do you feel like you are walking on egg shells? Being careful about what you say or how you act for fear they may become explosive? Again, this is a red flag it may be time for behavioral boarding schools to help teen depression.
